Definition Of Discontinuity:

Unpredictable, unforeseen, natural or man-made sudden change, consequence, event, or force that confounds or disrupts earlier expectations or estimates.
Occurrence of a massive natural disaster, discovery that the Earth revolves around the Sun (and not the other way round), invention of personal computer, and the advent of internet and World Wide Web, are some of the examples of discontinuity. See also paradigm shift.
